The amount of information available to researchers – or even the average person – is growing at an exponential rate. According to IDC, the amount of content created in 2010 will exceed 988 exabytes – 16 million times the amount of content in all of the books ever written in the history of mankind!
And consumers are adding to this content at a rapid rate. For example, every hour they:
- Create 300,000 blog entries
- Add 15,000 comments to fan pages
- Generate 200,000 microblogs or status updates
- Post 125,000 comments and news stories
Furthermore, internal information—spanning call center data, survey data and more—can represent multi-terabytes of data. Publishers have hundreds of millions of documents in premium content.
When a typical keyword search generates thousands, if not millions, of hits, how do you make sense of the information that’s out there and find the answers you need?
NetBase is pioneering an approach called Insight Discovery that captures sentence patterns – the “connective tissue” between words – to turn millions of search results into a manageable number of structured insights. NetBase’s next-generation semantic technology understands linguistics and reads sentences to surface insights in billions of sources in public and private online repositories. Patent-pending lenses provide context for search results and intelligently guide users to answers. Combined, these two technology components are able to:
- Determine meaning and provide context. Unlike traditional search engines or keyword-based social listening tools, NetBase goes beyond words and phrases to understand full sentences. Our lenses then apply domain-specific context to help the user discover answers to specific types of questions.
- Make relevant results instantly accessible. Rather than relying on keyword-matching algorithms to put the most “important” results at the top of the list, researchers can drill into summarized results in the way that’s most relevant to the question at hand.
- Operate at scale. Unlike other semantic technologies, NetBase gives users insight into billions of sources of information – including pages on the public Internet, social media postings, premium content from publishers, internal information such as documents, consumer surveys, call center transcripts, and more.
The results are faster answers – across a wide range of business problems.
Results
- Develop new brand strategies
- Innovate new products, packaging or marketing campaigns with confidence
- Identify which messages are resonating in the marketplace
- Decide how to act on market trends
